Colleagues at Asda Weymouth have donated £500 worth of gift cards to the RNLI to ensure crews working during the Olympics don’t go hungry.

More than 10 members at the Nothe Parade lifeboat station are part of the crew which will be on standby for 24 hours a day during the 16 day sporting event.

Colleagues at the Newstead Road Asda store want to ensure the crew’s energy levels are topped up during a busy time for the station and their donation will go towards the purchase of tea, coffee and snacks.

Community Life Champion, Sandy West, said:

“The RNLI will be providing a fantastic resource to the town and we wanted to show our appreciation by keeping the crew fed and watered.  We hope the donation keeps their spirits buoyed.”

Ken Francis, volunteer at the RNLI Lifeboat Station, added:

“The Olympic period is going to be an extremely busy time for the team and I can speak on behalf of everyone here when I say we’re extremely grateful for the colleagues’ donation.  It’s great to know we have the store’s support.”
