Weymouth began the game at a very lively pace putting a lot of pressure on West Dorset, creating scoring opportunities but not capitalising on them. Eventually Weymouth scored through Matt Walkden who squeezed the ball into the goal after a good move from the midfield maestro Wayne Goff.
West Dorset came back strongly and replied with a goal of their own. Weymouth lost a little composure and discipline, which allowed Hawks to score again. In the second half, Weymouth came back strongly forcing a few short corners enabling veteran Ian Metcalfe to score with a well placed shot. The game was evenly balanced at this stage but a lapse of concentration allowed West Dorset to score again.
Weymouth had a chance to level the score with Sam Bell blazing the ball over the bar after another penalty corner. The game showed that age is no barrier to playing hockey, with the two Weymouth scorers having a combined age of one hundred!
