Weymouth Sea Life Adventure Park is pleased to announce the opening of an amazing new display containing the UK’s largest collection of common clownfish – Clownfish Discovery.
“You may not know the name, but everybody knows the common Clownfish”, said Park Curator, Fiona Smith, “with its bold orange, black, and white stripes they are instantly recognisable as Disney’s favourite marine character, “Nemo””.
Visitors will have absolutely no problem finding them because as soon as they enter the Treasure of the Deep pod at The Park they will be confronted with 350 of these adorable creatures!
These are all captive bred juveniles received from the Tropical Marine Centre, but Weymouth Sea Life and Adventure Park hopes to add the Common Clownfish to their very successful breeding programme in the future.
Fiona explains, “We are already attempting to breed the Maroon clownfish, but no babies as of yet, and would like to add the common clownfish to our program.”
She continues, “these beautiful fish are very popular aquarium animals, so anything we can do to improve and expand fish keeping practice with these animals will be of huge benefit. And as always, the more successful the captive breeding programmes become, the fewer fish will be removed from their natural habitat”.
The Clownfish display will be available to the public from Tuesday 17th July and will be appearing in the tank below so you’ll get a great view of them no matter how tall you are!
