STEVE Alker-Hall has become Weymouth Amateur Boxing Club’s third Western Counties champion this year alone after defeating Callum Gould.
Alker-Hall earned his title thanks to a victory on points over the experienced Gould, from the City of Gloucester ABC, in the final of the senior championships in Plymouth.
The Weymouth boxer enjoyed a solid opening round against his taller, defensive opponent, moving 3-1 ahead on points as the bell sounded.
Gould utilised his height and reach to level the score at 4-4 at the end of the second round, leaving everything to play for as the boxers returned to their stools.
After a pep talk from his coach, Alker-Hall pulled out all the stops in the third and final round, working hard to finish the contest a 6-4 winner and to be crowned Western Counties champion.
Alker-Hall, who will lock horns with Earsfield ABC’s Kirk Garvey in Bristol on April 11, has joined Toby Osmond and John Jo Look as Weymouth’s third champion.
Meanwhile, the next Weymouth ABC dinner show will be staged at Redlands on April 24. The club is hopeful of matching Liam Simpson against Reece Connor, and Storm Look with Martin Clarke.
Other fights on the card should include Toby Osmond versus Connor Hutchings, and Colum Siddons, returning from a serious leg injury, taking on Damien Dinwiddy.
The dinner show could also see a triumphant homecoming for Alker-Hall against the man he vanquished to become a Western Counties champion.
Tickets for the night are still available at £35 for dinner and boxing, and can be booked via David Nelmes on 07899 925316 or Jason House on 0787 549660.
