Another superb performance from Weymouth means they are still set to finish the league unbeaten. With four games left to play and no other team in reaching distance of the top spot, the home team celebrated a 5-0 win against Beaminster on Saturday. Weymouth were under pressure when the game started, Beaminster had some strong attacks and kept the defence busy. This quickly changed as Weymouth regained possession and began to control the flow of the game, with some great linked play and distribution across the pitch. Susie Stone, back from injury, had a superb game in midfield, working well with captain Wendy Butcher and driving skilfuly into the D. An early goal from Drewitt was first on the score sheet and was shortly followed by a sneaky shot from Butcher off a short corner. Entering the second half 2-0 up, Weymouth were confident and maintained their composure in the second half, making great use of Emily Bloxham on the right who drove up the pitch. Jenny Stuart-Smith deflected a strike from Susie Stone past the keeper to take Beaminster’s deficit to 3. The team continued to play well, Megan Reeder had an uneventful game in goal with few touches, however she communicated well and instructed the defence when the away side were dangerous on the break. Becca Man from the 2s had a great performance as she battled hard in the midfield and created some solid passes up the wings. Some fantastic skill from Drewitt resulted in the penultimate goal of the game, and the score was taken to 5 with a final strike from Butcher into the bottom corner. A solid performance from the league-toppers, they face Bournemouth 3s away on Saturday and Yeovil 2s away on Sunday in their bid to win Channel Division 1.
