The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy Represent Dorset at the 2010 Sport Industry Awards

The Sport Industry Awards saw the full force of the UK sports industry in one location, last night, May 13, to honour excellence throughout this year.  The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) were invited to attend through their shortlisted entry for ‘Sport Venue of the Year’.  Competition for the award was intense with the likes of SWALEC Stadium, the Brit Insurance Oval, Twickenham Stadium and Wembley Stadium all offering outstanding entries alongside the Academy. Overall category winner went to the O2 after much consideration from the judges.

Tom Grainger, Chief Executive, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, following the awards ceremony last night said, “It is excellent for Dorset to have such a strong representation at these national awards alongside the UK’s most established and successful sporting venues.  I am confident that the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy’s dedication to running a world class venue is a major asset for the local Weymouth and Portland communities who are benefiting economically through the increasing profile of this sailing venue and the surrounding area”.

This is a key moment in time for the people of Dorset, the region is fast becoming the focal point for Olympic sailing and continues to inspire the world to visit and enjoy the natural sporting arena on offer.  Weymouth and Portland will continue to grow in global recognition in the lead up to 2012 and the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy team is committed to ensuring this profile is sustained during the post legacy years for the local community.
