Things are looking up for Weymouth woman Raquel Cubillo…and so will she be doing in the coming weeks.

The 36-year-old mum of two from Kings Road, Weymouth, has been appointed marketing manager for the new SEA LIFE Tower, which is currently climbing skywards at a rapid rate on the resort’s Festival Pier.

Born in Weymouth and educated at St Augustine’s Primary, the Convent of the Sacred Hearts and Weymouth College, Raquel graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in International Marketing Management.

She spent a year working for oil company Elf in Paris, managing partnerships including an alliance with the then-fledgling Eurotunnel.

After a break, she then joined New Look in Weymouth as graphic design administrator, and by the time she departed 12 years later – just before Christmas – had reached the position of international brand manager.

“I’d been keeping an eye on Merlin Entertainments for quite a while and was immediately interested when I learned they were looking for a marketing manager for the new Tower,” she said.

“I’ve been to the Sea Life Park dozens of times, and from what I’ve seen and experienced already there’s a positive, friendly culture within Merlin that I really like.”

Raquel’s job will be to ensure that holidaymakers, day-trippers, schools and groups make a trip up the new Tower a priority, and she is confident she can meet that challenge.

“I feel privileged to be involved in such an iconic project,” she said.

Raquel and her husband Philip have two young sons Sebastian (5) and Isaac (2).

Outside work she is a keen cook and an avid reader.
